| Sometimes you do the most inexplicable things that end up hurting those around you.
For me, that's never really been so apparent. Nonetheless, sometimes I feel like a two year old, that I can't comprehend the normal conventions of life, that for all I think I understand everything, I walk into these absurd traumas with no aim to hurt myself or the ones I love. Rather, I make terrible decisions with no comprehension of the consequences and how they inadvertantly injure those around me. And, then I look back and wonder how I was so stupid, how I made such obvious mistakes... and hope that my good intentions will buoy me.
As a conversation piece, I always say that whenever I have something good in my life, I mess it up. Most of the time, I'm just joking, and my avoidance of certain successful aspects of my life is intended. But, when you really do jeopardize the people and ideas important to you, there's nothing you can do but hope, because you only live life once. And when you make those mistakes along the way, pray that what you value isn't tarnished in the process...

At one point or another, any half-decent person has felt the desire to
have "a soundtrack of their life," in one way or another... whether
that takes the form of constant music coming down from the heavens, the
occasionally appropriate song played during "Full House" moments, or
just a compilation of tunes that seem appropriate for a day or a week
or a lifetime... To me, the most common manifestation, beyond the
obvious CD mixes I always make (as I'm yet to be converted to the
iPod), is that there's always a song that seems appropriate to the feel
of my life. Maybe it's not always about the right subject matter, but
it captures something that reminds me of my today. Right now, that song
would be Skeleton by Bloc Party.
However, wouldn't it be cool if everyone carried around a mix of the
songs that were theirs, like the soundtrack to their life. And, when
you caught up with a friend or met a stranger, their soundtrack was
available to you, for listening, or conversation, or probably for my
being judgmental. Even, if you couldn't carry and share a CD at all
times, you could have lists of that soundtrack printed like
business cards, a musical synopsis of who and where you were. Maybe, it
would be totally meaningless, but I think still undeniably cool.

"President Bush has just nominated John Roberts to the U.S.
Supreme Court and Planned Parenthood believes that this
appointment will have a monumental impact on the future health
and safety of women in this country. I agree. Please contact

only those nominees who will uphold fundamental civil rights,
including reproductive choice."

| - Pictures of You
Part of a Series of Brief Reviews-
Summer movie #1: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
I thought that CatCF would be somewhere between good and great, and that's exactly what it was. The first hour or so of the movie was terrific, and JD's Wonka was better when initially more mysterious. The two main criticisms I have are that (1) the movie could've been longer and (2) it didn't reach its logical extreme.
As for the length, Burton's Chocolate Factory is one of the most amazing fictional locations one can imagine. However, the pacing was a mess. Once they got inside, the movie disposed of the kids in a quick, linear fashion, when we all would've done better with 15-20 minutes more of circuitous crazyness.
And regarding the logical extreme, Burton was constrained by needing to make a children's movie. Roald Dahl's story is fucked up, and if Burton chose to make it as dark and bizarre as possible (as it hinted at), it would've been more entertaining. In this version, everything was contained at the edge of the sphere of "...and they lived happily ever after."
That being the case, the movie was good/great--well worth my time.

| I am back, after so long... I miss Xanga. It's not as sexy as Blogger,
but it works for me... and offers me the best chance to actually blog
with frequency.
When I left to Blogger, I'd hoped it would
revitalize my love of the blog, but instead it merely made things too
difficult. So, here, I am, back again for a 2nd go around.
I miss the camaraderie of Xanga, particularly that of Banrock Station, HedgeHog, and the artist formerly known as Itty01.
So, enjoy, as I delve back into the wonderful of blogging....
Cheers.... | | |
